Safety and Security

Entrances

Entranceways to our centers are secured by a keycard, pin code entry or a similar form of security system, ensuring that only our families and employees can enter the building unassisted.

When enrolling your child, you will provide us with the details of who is authorized to pick up your child from care, and our centers will check photo identification of anyone they are not familiar with.

In some centers, even the front doors themselves are a security feature, preventing children from exiting the building alone.

Cameras

Many of our classrooms, playrooms, and playgrounds are equipped with security cameras, allowing our front desks to continuously monitor activities throughout the center. Because features may vary by location, we encourage families to reach out to their local Busy Bees center for specific information about security measures in place.

Lockdown Procedures

We also have lockdown procedures for each school and have regular lockdown drills so our families can have full confidence that their children are in safe hands.

Panic Buttons

We even have “panic buttons” that alert the police in the event of an emergency with just a quick press of a button.

Emergency Policies and Procedures

Emergency procedures and drills are essential to ensure the children's safety, prepare employees, and minimize risks. Regular practice helps the children and employees learn how to respond, creating a secure environment where everyone knows how to act in an emergency.

Our emergency preparedness includes monthly fire drills and lockdown drills so our families can have full confidence that their children are in safe hands.

Our People

Our hiring and onboarding practices, which includes our mentoring program, ensures new employees are fully prepared to work in the classrooms and properly supported in their early days with us.

  • Background Checks: All employees are required to have a clear criminal background reference check, which includes vulnerable sector screening, as part of our hiring and screening process. Renewals and declarations are required as per locally legislated requirements
  • CPR / First Aid Certified: Our centers meet and exceed local legislative and regulatory requirements regarding the number of employees that are required to be certified in First Aid and CPR.

Health and Safety

AED

In addition to employees being trained in First Aid and CPR, each of our centers has an AED, designed for infants and children, on site and our employees are trained in how to use it should the need arise.

Safe Sleep

Our infant classrooms follow all legislated safe sleep procedures to support the well-being of every baby in our care. Each infant follows their own individual sleep schedule, allowing for a personalized approach that meets their unique needs. For all children, the room's lighting ensures that our employees can easily and regularly monitor sleeping children. These measures create a secure, comfortable, and developmentally appropriate setting for restful sleep.

Playground Safety

Our centers conduct daily and monthly playground inspections to ensure a safe and secure play environment for all children. These inspections help identify and address potential hazards such as broken equipment, unsafe surfaces, or environmental risks and provides a space where children can explore, play, and develop their physical skills with confidence.

Allergy Management

Our centers are completely nut-free and we have strict allergy management protocols in place, including careful meal planning, employee training, and clear communication with families about dietary restrictions. All food brought into the center is monitored to prevent exposure to allergens, and employees are trained to recognize and respond to allergic reactions quickly and effectively. By maintaining these high standards, we create a safe and inclusive environment for all children.
